Kortrijk, Belgium, 3 December 2020 – Barco, a global leader in visualization technology, is proud to announce it will provide the projection solution for two Tiger helicopter simulation systems. The end customer commissioned ST Engineering Antycip (formerly Antycip Simulation) for the upgrade, who in their turn selected Barco's FL40-4K projectors for the job.
The two Tiger helicopter simulation systems are located in a non-disclosed training center in Europe. Each simulator consists of two cockpits developed for multirole purposes (one for the pilot and one for the systems operator), each with its own projection sphere. These spheres aren't for training but rather for studies and tests where human behavior and decision-making can be assessed in various environments and situations.
The projection domes have been in use for about 20 years, but made from a hard-composite material and regularly updated. Part of the challenges in this project was to replace the legacy equipment, while keeping the mechanical structure in place.
In total, 4 Barco FL40-4K true solid-state projectors are used. This provides the pilot and systems operator with a 210° field of view, which provides the ultimate visuals to perform the simulation tasks. The installation was concluded in June of this year.
Constant color and light
"We chose the Barco FL40 because of its ability to go up to 4K using an LED light source, which mean a constant color and light output with a reduced maintenance," explained Quentin Blancheri, key account manager at ST Engineering Antycip. "The Pulse software offers us a lot of possibility in order to remotely control and manage the projectors, and the longevity of the product was one of the key factors for choosing it."
"We are very glad that ST Engineering Antycip again chose our projectors for this exciting project," Dave Fluegeman, VP Simulation at Barco, adds. "We have been partners for more than 20 years now and share a common passion for quality, flexibility and focus on the customer. They have tackled this project with much knowledge and expertise, and Barco is proud to have contributed to the successful redeployment of this simulation system."
ST Engineering Antycip and Barco have jointly hosted a webinar on simulation solutions for the defense market. You can find the recording of this session here.
