“We were the first to demo a high-brightness laser projector in January 2011 and again at the Moody Gardens Digital Cinema Symposium in January 2012. Since then, we have been pushing the envelope to perfect our laser projection technology and build a fully integrated solution,” comments Todd Hoddick, VP Digital Cinema at Barco. “As image quality remains a key differentiator for the cinema experience, this is at the top of our priority list when developing new technologies. Our laser projector is the most compact 60,000-lumen projector on the market and will set a new standard for image quality in the cinema industry.”
No more speckle
Showing stunningly bright and uniform images with crisp detail and exceptionally rich colors, the Barco laser projector radically improves the 3D and general cinema experiences. The projector is unique in its ability to minimize speckle – even on silver screens – eliminating the need for a mechanical screen-vibrating system to achieve the desired image quality. Additionally, the laser projector comes with Barco’s brand-new generation of projector electronics. Enhanced with the revolutionary Barco Alchemy technology – also released at CinemaCon – it is the world’s first laser projector capable of displaying 4K HFR content (from 48 up to 60 fps) and 4K 3D content. What’s more, it can replace a dual-stacked setup of xenon-based digital cinema projectors and still offer double 3D brightness in Color3D, while reducing energy levels by 40% while eliminating the need to align and maintain two projectors.
Fully integrated technology
Designed from the ground up, the Barco 6P laser projector features a fully integrated system with unified laser light sources that are housed inside the projector. Providing better durability and system efficiency than fiber-coupled technologies, this reliable projector ensures true peace of mind. The Barco Laser3D system offers maximum efficiency in color-based 3D from a single projector to provide brighter 3D and deliver constant and uniform images with excellent contrast and no lamp flicker.
Dolby® 3D and Barco Laser3D
The Barco laser projection demo at CinemaCon will showcase a giant leap forward for cinema, captivating audiences with unparalleled image quality. “Delivering an outstanding 14 fL brightness level in 3D, nearly no crosstalk, exceptional image quality and color performance, we believe laser projectors – paired with the Dolby 3D color separation system - will wow audiences with a 3D experience like they’ve never seen before,” commented Doug Darrow, Senior Vice President, Cinema, Dolby Laboratories. “The combination of the Dolby 3D color separation technology and custom-designed Dolby3D glasses matches the six primary laser light wavelengths of the Barco Laser3D system to enable a truly immersive viewing experience.”
Pristine image quality
“Laser projection is ushering in a new era for the cinema industry and Barco is leading the way – and driving crowds to the cinema – by offering audiences all-encompassing 3D adventures that cannot be experienced at home,” says Wim Buyens, Senior Vice President of Barco’s Entertainment Division. “Our laser projection is just one of the many technologies Barco is providing exhibitors to turn their cinema into a true entertainment destination. Audiences across the world have favored Barco projection for its pristine image quality and unmatched brightness. Our laser projector continues to fulfill this legacy, offering moviemakers more creative freedom to show their movies with unprecedented image quality.”
