American Bible Society selects Barco to enrich the multimedia experience at downtown Manhattan venue

Rancho Cordova, CA USA – 16 January 2014 – Barco, a global leader in visualization solutions, and Velocity Productions, a full-service production and event management company, teamed up to create a series of dynamic video walls to engage a new generation of patrons with immersive spiritual programming.

Bringing a 197-year-old religious institution into modern times to attract young, urban followers is no small task. But, American Bible Society’s high-profile location at 61st/Broadway in New York City offered a prime opportunity to create an inviting, visually thought-provoking “third space” to inspire local youth with the Bible. Barco and Velocity outfitted the newly redesigned atrium and gathering spots with 22 OverView NSL-4621 LCD displays in various configurations, presenting spiritual imagery and videos, live media streaming, signage for upcoming events and services, and more.

An engaging, inspiring visual experience
“When we began the design process, our goal was to create a warm, welcoming space that was intriguing and presented the Bible in a subtle way. Of course, it had to be technology-driven to meet the media-savvy needs of young as well as mature audiences,” commented Matt Steinruck, Director of Arts & Media Bible Advocacy for the Society. “The Barco displays helped us create a community-type experience, inviting people inside to relax, connect and engage with unique, creative content in a bright and dynamic immersive environment.”

The new venue was launched in collaboration with The History Channel’s 10-hour mini-series, “The Bible”  featuring Mark Burnett and Roma Downey; interactive content from “The American Bible Challenge” game show on GSN; followed by a series Q Ideas Conferences. American Bible Society also hosts a variety of live stream broadcasts from the space.

High impact for a dynamic venue, inside and out
Velocity created several different palettes of content, utilizing several 2x4 Barco video wall arrays in key locations throughout the facility. The primary focal point of the Atrium’s new interior is a stunning four-by-two tiled video wall comprised of eight 46-inch Barco LCDs. Along 61st Street, six pairs of monitors show the same content outside as inside to attract passersby.

“Because of American Bible Society’s prominent location right next to Lincoln Center and Times Square, they knew they had to equal the quality and brilliance of these venues to stand out among the adjacent signage and facades. The Barco NSL 46” display was absolutely the perfect choice, providing not only the high brightness, rich imagery and crystal clear media streaming desired, but also the reliability required for a 24/7 environment,” comments Brian Pirkle, President of Velocity Productions. Velocity also remotely monitors and manages the displays via a VPN remote desktop from its Atlanta office, using any mobile device.

Quality and performance combine for seamless presentationTh
OverView NSL-4621 near-seamless LCD video wall delivers bright, rich colors even in ambient light and features a very narrow bezel for smooth, seamless image reproduction.

“The choice by American Bible Society to use our LCD displays for such a dynamic venue is a testament to their versatility and performance when high impact and professional quality are the primary goals,” comments Scott Stremple, Vice President Sales - Venues & Hospitality, Projection Division, for Barco North America.
